The governor of Veracruz, Miguel Ángel Yunes Linares, confirmed that tomorrow, Tuesday, the inauguration of the ecological research center located on the "El Faunito" ranch, confiscated from former governor Javier Duarte, will take place in the municipality of Fortín de las Flores. This action is part of the state disincorporation process of assets acquired by former governor Duarte.
The land in question was confiscated in October 2016 and was taken under state control shortly before Yunes Linares's possession on December 1 of that same year. The handover was made unconditionally by Duarte's alleged frontman, J.J.J.R., as part of the organized crime process he is facing.
According to investigations, Javier Duarte spent his last days on this ranch before leaving the country, being a place he used to frequent due to his preference for the Córdoba region and its surroundings. The approximate value of the property is nearly 200 million pesos.
Governor Yunes Linares announced that the space will be granted on a lease agreement to Conacyt and the National Institute of Ecology for conducting research. There are plans to establish a research center on coffee and orchids, open to the public, with the aim of becoming a natural attraction in the area.
In addition to Ecology studies, at "El Faunito" postgraduate programs will be offered, orchid cultivation will take place, and there will be facilities such as a helipad, rooms, tennis courts, cabins, a pool, and a river that runs through the property across its two hectares.
